26 Chait, Kathmandu. Along with the change in office hours, the traffic jams on the roads have also changed. As the jam time has been moved forward, the Valley Traffic Police Office has also moved forward the schedule of ‘Pick Hour Duty’.

Previously, the office hours were fixed from 10 am to 5 pm. At that time, there was heavy traffic on the road from about an hour before 10 o’clock and from 5 o’clock to about an hour after. In some places, we had to stop in traffic for a long time.

After the cabinet meeting on 22 Chait decided that the office hours will be from 9 am to 5 pm, the traffic has been increasing since 8 am.

Nareshraj Subedi, Information Officer of the Valley Traffic Police Office informed that arrangements have been made to start the ‘Pick Hour Duty’ from 8 am in view of the traffic.

‘Peak hour duty’ used to start from 9 o’clock earlier, but now it starts from 8 o’clock, said information officer Subedi.

Peak hour duty means the period from 8 am to 11 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm. Even though the time of traffic jam in the morning has moved forward, the situation of traffic jam in the evening is still the same.

More than 1400 human resources are employed in vehicle management every day

There is a ‘pickup hour duty’ at 97 places, including Thapathali, Maitighar, Sinhadarbar, Tripureshwar, Koteshwar, where there is a lot of traffic. Manpower from senior officers to juniors are mobilized for pickup duty.

1,460 manpower is mobilized daily for traffic management in Kathmandu valley. 97 places have our pick hour duty and 326 places have regular duty. According to the Valley Traffic Police Office, there are 24-hour duty at other 28 locations.

According to the information officer of the office, Subedi, at present, the vehicles of VVIPs and other common people are not stopped during the rides of VIPs. “Now it is not like before, VIPs and VVIPs also stop at red lights like other common people,” said information officer Subedi.

Trafic FM’s program moved forward

It is estimated that there are more than 11 lakh vehicles in Kathmandu Valley. It has the highest number of motorcycles.

The problem of traffic jams is getting worse due to the problem of more vehicles traveling at the same time than the capacity of the road and not obeying the traffic rules.

Currently, as the time of traffic has changed along with the office hours, Traffic FM has also changed the schedule of giving information about the road conditions.

Trafic FM used to give information about the road conditions from 9 am to 11 am as Pick Hour, but now the program is played from 8 am to 10 am.
