18 Chait, Dolpa. While taking a mother to the hospital in Dolpa, the Himalayan district, a newborn baby died while giving birth on the way. A newborn baby born to 17-year-old Rasakumari KC of Tripurasundari Municipality-7 Pahad died.

On Wednesday, Raskumari was about to be taken to the district hospital in Dunai, the headquarter, after she fell into labor. But without reaching the district hospital, she gave birth to the baby on the way. The baby died shortly after birth.

Vidur Tiwari, Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital, informed that the infant was found to be dead after reaching the hospital.

According to him, Rasakumari gave birth to the baby at 31 weeks. Tiwari said that it was a ‘pre-mature birth’.

He says that the risk increases due to lack of regular health check-ups during pregnancy. Although the infant died, the mother’s condition is normal, the hospital said.

Chief District Officer Junu Hamal said that after trying to call a helicopter for rescue, the child’s life could not be saved as it did not arrive on time.
