Kathmandu. Google-owned video streaming platform YouTube has increased the fees for all its ‘premium’ plans in the US.

After almost three years, YouTube has decided to increase the prices again, which will directly affect users on Individual, Family and Lite plans.

According to the new price list updated on YouTube’s website, the changes are as follows:

Individual Plan: The price of this plan, which was previously $13.99, has increased by $2 to $15.99 per month.

Family Plan: The maximum increase in this plan is $4. Now users will have to pay $26.99 per month for the family plan.

Light Plan: The cheapest Lite plan has also increased by $1 to $8.99 per month.

For new customers, this price will be applicable immediately, while for existing customers, the new rate will be applicable only from the next billing cycle of June.

Although YouTube has not made any formal public announcement about this yet, it has already started informing some users by emailing them.

Users are also given the option of taking an annual plan to avoid rising costs. Paying $159.99 a year seems to save about 15 percent, or about $32, compared to the monthly plan. However, this price increase is limited to the US market for now.

While YouTube Premium remains popular for features such as an ad-free experience, offline video downloads and background play, tech analysts say the continued price hikes could drive users to the cheaper ‘premium lite’.
