The United States has lifted sanctions on Venezuela’s interim president, Delsey Rodriguez.

A few months ago, US President Donald Trump sent troops to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and take him to the US. Since then, Maduro’s Vice President Rodríguez has been acting as interim president.

After the arrest of Maduro, the US openly announced that it would run Venezuela and sell its oil. Since then, Rodriguez is believed to be running the government according to American wishes. U.S. media later revealed that the U.S. had spoken to Rodriguez while Maduro was still president.

Now, less than three months after Maduro was taken into custody, the United States lifted the sanctions imposed on Rodriguez in the past on Wednesday.

The decision paves the way for his government to reopen embassies and consulates in the U.S. and reassert control over state-owned Venezuelan companies abroad, Reuters reported.

Rodríguez also welcomed this decision and called it an important step towards normalizing and strengthening relations between the two countries.

“We believe that this progress will allow the removal of other sanctions currently in place in our country, which will enable us to build and guarantee an effective bilateral cooperation agenda for the benefit of our people,” she wrote on social network X.
