24 March, Kathmandu. Erica Gurung, the historic medal winner of karate, will compete in the WKF Karate One Premier League in Leshan, China. For that, a 3-member Nepali team including Erika is leaving for China on Wednesday.

Erica will challenge Nepal in the women’s 68 kg weight group in the competition to be held from April 10 to 12. Erika won a historic silver medal in the Premier League held in Istanbul, Turkey last January. The Premier League is held 4 times a year.

According to Kushal Shrestha, coach of the national karate team, Erica is currently ranked 11th in the world ranking. Based on the achievements of 2026, Erica is ranked fourth.

Kushal is in charge of a three-member team. The manager is Ravi Maharjan. National Sports Council Member-Secretary Ramcharitra Mehta and Nepal Karate Federation General Secretary Dawa Gurung bid farewell to the team during a program on Tuesday.

Addressing the program, Member-Secretary Mehta said that they are taking initiatives for the cash prizes that the athletes could not get for winning medals.

“I am seriously taking initiatives in the relevant bodies for the cash prizes that have not been received by the players who have won medals in various international competitions. Among the 18 tasks that were presented in the welcome program of the Honorable Sports Minister, I put the award of sportsmen as the first number. The minister should also be positive about it.’
