21 Chait, Kathmandu. The corridors along the Bagmati River, which were once synonymous with bad smell and dirt, have now started to look attractive. Blooming flowers and thick greenery on the banks of the Bagmati river have given a new height to the urban beauty of Kathmandu.
In different sections of the Bagmati Corridor, especially ‘bagnabelly’ flowers in pink, white and yellow colors are in full bloom. The red railings built along the banks of the river and the flowers hanging on the brick walls attract the passers-by.
A few years ago, the river bank, which was full of bushes and garbage, now looks like a well-kept garden. The flow of Bagmati River is calm now. And the shore embankments are very clean.
Artistic stone walls and well-maintained footpaths have made the river area safer and more attractive. However, the foul smell in the water remains.
The presence of common people on the banks of Bagmati river has increased recently. In the corridor, young people can be seen walking in the clean environment of the river bank.
The movement of vehicles on the roads of the corridor also seems to be orderly. Corridor area has now become an attractive destination to feel the peace and take pictures in the midst of urban busyness.
Balance between urban development and nature The modern buildings seen in the background of the picture and the dense greenery seen in the foreground show that Kathmandu is trying to find a balance between modernity and nature.
The orderly construction of electricity poles and corridor roads reflects the positive side of urban development. It seems that the Bagmati clean-up campaign and the corridor construction plan of the government are now taking a meaningful form.
Some people believe that if the beautification continues while maintaining the cleanliness of the river, Bagmati will return to its old reputation and civilization. Even the dirty corners of the city can be made like heaven if you have the will.
