20 March, Kathmandu. The main opposition Nepali Congress has made internal preparations to show effective presence in the House of Representatives. Congress is planning to advance the strategy by prioritizing the protection of public interest and strengthening internal coordination.

In order to make the parliamentary role effective, the Congress has to support the proposals and policies brought by the government in the interest of the people, and strongly oppose the steps against the people, national sovereignty and civil liberties.

“We will support all the issues brought by the government in favor of the people,” General Minister Pradeep Paudel said, “People, we will not allow anything that is against the civil liberties of the people, against the national sovereignty.”

The Congress has instructed the newly elected MPs to make an effective presentation in the Parliament, make necessary preparations and work hard by conducting ‘Parliamentary Awareness’ programme. Congress has considered the activism and presentation of MPs as the main basis for strengthening the presence of the party in Parliament.

‘Congress’s presence will be seen only by our effective presentation in Parliament. We have told them to do all the necessary preparation and hard work,’ said General Minister Paudel.

The Congress has adopted a policy of narrowing civil liberties, acting in an illegal and biased manner and giving strong warnings in cases of injustice. The Congress has said that priorities will be determined to effectively present the party’s point of view in Parliament.

“We determine the priorities for restricting freedom, treating someone with prejudice in an illegal manner, warning about injustice, making the MP’s presentation effective, and presenting the party’s point of view in the parliament,” said Paudel.

While playing the role of the opposition, the Congress will also emphasize on strengthening the relationship between the party and the parliamentary party.

Paudel said that the goal is to increase coordination between the National Assembly and the House of Representatives, to inform the MPs of the party’s opinion in time and to facilitate the formation of a common opinion in any event.

Congress spokesperson Devraj Chalise also said that MPs elected on behalf of the party have been asked to show effective presence in Parliament.

‘Honorable gentlemen, present yourself in Parliament in a weighty manner. Keep information about the process. We have asked them to know the seriousness of the subject,’ he said.

According to him, the Congress has also asked the MPs not to make controversial statements that would damage the party and not to protest for the sake of protest.

Everything had to be presented in the Congress’s image, approach, and Parliament. “Sufficient study had to be done for that,” Spokesperson Chalise said. The culture of protesting for the sake of protesting in Parliament should be abandoned.’

Spokesman Chalise said that the Congress will raise its voice in the parliament for issues related to the protection of democracy and human rights and the interests of the people. He also said that if the government abuses its power to go against democratic values ​​by showing a totalitarian character, the Congress will strongly counter.

“The government is showing a totalitarian character, the arrogance of power is encroaching on democratic values, and if it is misusing power, there will be a backlash,” said spokesperson Chalise.

The Congress held discussions with the members of the National Assembly and the House of Representatives on Thursday, the day the first session of the newly formed House of Representatives began.

In the discussion held at the office of the parliamentary party at Singhdarbar, the party asked the MPs to play an effective role in the parliament.

MP Krishna Bahadur Rokaya, who is the chief whip of the Congress in the National Assembly, said in a conversation with media persons that the strategy of the party was discussed in detail in the meeting held after the formation of the new government.

“It is a matter of the parliamentarians actively performing their role, supporting the government in favor of the people, supporting the law enforcement, and warning the government that the country is being harmed by breaking the law and the law,” he said.

Earlier, on 14 March, the Congress conducted a ‘parliamentary awareness’ program for the newly elected MPs and gave them training on parliamentary practices, procedures and priorities and the party’s pledge. Newly elected members of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly participated in the training program.

Member of the House of Representatives, Geeta Gurung, also said that there was a discussion about supporting the proposals and policies brought by the government in favor of the people and opposing the anti-people measures of the government. She also said that in the ‘Parliamentary Awareness’ program, information was given about parliamentary practices and procedures.

The leaders have also explained the failure of the Congress to nominate candidates for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives as part of their strategy in the Parliament. However, it was certain that the results would not come in favor of the Congress, even if they were nominated.

“We support giving a political message that the Parliament should become a center of dialogue, cooperation and national problem solving,” Spokesperson Chalise said, “What does not giving candidacy mean is that we are not protesting for the sake of protesting.” We are the opposition, so we don’t have to keep showing it. We have given a political message for dialogue and cooperation.’

General Minister Paudel says that since the ruling party has convenient points in the parliament and the Speaker is also a common person, he has decided not to run for the Speaker.

“As the Speaker has the responsibility to run the Parliament in a fair and dignified manner, we have decided not to run with the expectation that the dignity of the Parliament will increase,” he said.

The ruling Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA), which won 125 seats directly in the House of Representatives elections, won 57 seats proportionally and is close to a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives.

Congress is the main opposition party in the House of Representatives with a total of 36 seats after winning 18 seats directly and 20 seats proportionally. CPN-UML, which is in third place, has won nine seats directly and 16 seats proportionally.
