18 Chait, Kathmandu. There was a discussion in the all-party meeting about bringing up the MP’s personal secretary. However, no concrete decision has been made on this.

Since February 21, 6 parties have come as national parties. A joint meeting of these parties was previously held informally on 5th Chait. On Wednesday, it was formally settled. In both the meetings, there was a discussion about appointing the personal secretary of the MP.

According to the leaders who participated in the meeting, no decision was reached even though this issue was discussed. The decision was made based on the agenda of the first meeting.

Arjun Narsingh KC, a senior member of the House of Representatives, chaired the meeting held in the hall of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee at Singhdarbar. Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam was present in the meeting on behalf of the government.

Five people were present on behalf of RSWP. DP Aryal, Kabindra Burlakoti, Vipin Acharya, Samishka Baskota and Prakashchandra Pariyar from RSVP went to the all-party meeting.

Mohan Acharya and Urmila Thaplia were from Nepali Congress. Guru Baral and Ganesh Thagunna were from CPN-UML. Varshaman Pun from the Nepali Communist Party and Aren Rai from the Labor Culture Party. Khushbu Oli was from Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPPA).

The previous government had changed the schedule of the Act 2073 related to the remuneration and benefits of the officials and members of the Federal Parliament and took away the privilege of the personal secretary of the MP.

As part of cost reduction, the government has canceled the private secretary facility that MPs have been getting. However, the then officials of the Federal Parliament expressed dissatisfaction with this decision.

On October 18, the then Prime Minister Sushila Karki was met by the Parliament officials including the then Speaker Devraj Ghimire and expressed their displeasure.

The Council of Ministers meeting held on October 5 took various decisions to cut unproductive expenses and maintain frugality. It is said that the decision to cut unproductive expenses and maintain frugality will apply to all ministries and agencies of the Nepal government, state governments and all local levels.

Based on this, the position of private secretary that MPs have been getting has been cancelled.

In Section 25 of the Federal Parliament Officers and Members Remuneration and Facilities Act, 2073, it is mentioned that the Government of Nepal can modify the schedule in a way that does not cause embarrassment to the officials or members by publishing a notice in the Nepal Gazette.

Based on this, there was a discussion in the all-party meeting about reviving the post of MP’s private secretary, which was abolished by the previous government.
