18 Chait, Butwal. The election campaign for the new leadership in the Western Region Transport Professionals (Truck) Committee has started. The new leadership is being selected from the 25th annual general meeting and 14th session of the committee to be held on 20th and 21st of Chait. 2,000 trucks and 1,300 businessmen affiliated committee is one of the largest truck committee in Nepal.

Pankaj Rai, a young businessman, has announced his independent candidacy for the post of chairman to become the leader of the committee, which has a two-year term. Rai held a press conference in Butwal on Wednesday and announced various 14-point commitments.

Rai has prioritized the issue of quick problem solving by developing a mobile app system to ease the complicated process and problems arising after road accidents by coordinating between businessmen, self-employed and workers.

Rai has expressed his commitment to take initiative with the government to reform impractical and business-unfriendly laws for the creation of business-friendly laws, to ensure that drivers and co-drivers belong to the social security fund, insurance training and health examination arrangements.

Similarly, Rai is committed to strengthening the security system to control the theft of fuel and goods, solving the parking problem, implementing the driver’s health and insurance system, conducting regular health checkups and accident insurance programs, developing relationships based on respect and cooperation between businessmen and employees.

Similarly, Rai promised to reduce the provision of Indian number plate trucks to drive in Nepal for 72 hours to 24 hours. “I am committed to conducting regular training on safe driving training, traffic rules and emergency management”, Rai said, “I have given priority to transparency in the organization’s operations and long-term solutions to businessmen’s problems.”

Rai is also committed to establish a help desk for the smooth operation of the Social Security Fund and make membership expansion effective. For the leadership of the committee, Pratap Karki, who is close to the Nepali Congress, and Yam GC, a businessman close to the Nepali Communist Party, are also preparing to form a panel and submit nominations.
