Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal accepted his resignation last Wednesday. The Sushila Karki-led government had decided to recall the ambassadors of 11 countries. The ambassadors appealed to the Supreme Court against the decision.
After the court ordered not to implement the decision in the said writ, the ministry had been bringing the ambassadors who did not want to step down from their positions by setting up a separate working room in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Rupakheti was also appearing without resigning. “As a law-abiding citizen, I considered it my duty to respect the Supreme Court’s order and according to the second letter sent by the then government, I returned to Nepal and appeared at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he stated in his resignation letter.
