19 Chait, Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection has warned that strict legal action will be taken against those who cheat consumers in the market and advertise misleadingly.

The department has issued notices to control unfair business activities in the market and to ensure the constitutional rights of consumers, the MRP, purchase bill and quality of goods have been tightened.

The department has drawn the attention of the stakeholders to ensure smooth, transparent and fair supply of goods and services in the market while embracing the fundamental rights of consumers guaranteed by Article 44 of the Constitution of Nepal.

According to the provisions of section 6 (j) of the Consumer Protection Act 2075, from now on the maximum retail selling price (MRP) including all types of taxes levied on the goods sold in the market must be maintained.

The department has completely prohibited the act of concealing, concealing or deceiving the actual quality, result, price, weight, pattern or texture of goods or services.

Recalling the provisions of section 16 and 18 of the Act, the department has given strict instructions not to sell goods with false or misleading advertisements and not to deal in inferior and low quality fake goods.

In order to maintain transparency in the market, it is mentioned in the notice that the legal provisions that must provide a bill or receipt after providing goods or services to consumers will be strictly enforced.

Likewise, it has been arranged that importers, transporters, stockists and sellers involved in the production and sale of goods or services must keep the purchase bill or invoice of the goods purchased for the purpose of sale at the place of business.

The department has also requested the consumers to get the bill or receipt of the goods or services consumed by them.

All stakeholders have been informed not to engage in unfair business activities prohibited by the Act and not to produce and sell inferior goods.

The department has warned that strict legal action will be taken in accordance with the prevailing laws if it is found that the department’s instructions are neglected, violated, or involved in business activities in violation of the prevailing laws.
