US President Donald Trump has said that there will be a strong attack on Iran in the next two to three weeks.
In his address to the nation on Wednesday night, he also said that the US is getting closer to its main strategic goals in this war.
“In 32 days of military operations, the U.S. military has achieved a decisive and powerful victory in a short period of time, and Iran is no longer a security threat,” Trump said in his speech.
He further added, ‘In the next two to three weeks, we will attack them very hard. We will send them back to the Stone Age.’
Thousands of people have been killed in the Middle East since February 28, when the US and Israel attacked Iran. Iran has since attacked Israel, US military bases and Gulf countries.
Due to this conflict, Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, an important oil shipping route. This has affected the world market and Trump’s popularity has declined. Recently, anti-Trump demonstrations have been taking place in various states of America.
After Trump’s speech, the stock market fell, while oil prices rose. Investors have expressed disappointment that there is no clear plan to end the conflict soon.
Trump said that the US is not dependent on the Strait of Hormuz. He has also asked his allied countries that take oil from there to take initiative to open the route.
‘Many Americans are worried about rising gasoline prices. “This temporary increase is due to attacks by the Iranian regime on oil tankers in neighboring countries, which are not related to this conflict,” he said.
Trump also said in a televised address, ‘They came very close to nuclear weapons, but did not provide proof of it. Our army has won decisive victories in the last four weeks. We are gradually weakening the Iranian regime’s ability to exert influence in the US and abroad.’
The International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the International Energy Agency have warned that the war will have a ‘globally disproportionate impact’. He also said that they will coordinate to help the affected countries.
