19 Chait, Kathmandu. A fair is held today at Baisdhara in Balaju, Kathmandu. In Baisdhara, the fair takes place on the full moon day of Chait Shukla. Baisakh bath starts from this day.

Hindus and Buddhists go to bathe in Baisdhara of Balaju on Chait Shukla Purnima.
It is a religious belief that bathing in Balaju’s Baisdhara will give you the same merit as bathing in Muktinath and Gosainkunda. Also, there is a popular belief that diseases such as Luto and Khatira will disappear.

With this belief, from early this morning, from children to the elderly, Balaju has come to bathe in Baisdhara.

On the day before Chait Shukla Purnima, Buddhists perform prayers in Buddhist monasteries and take bath in Balaju Baisadhara on the full moon day. After bathing, Swayambhu reaches Mahachaitya and worship is also performed.

On this day, the Tamang community of the districts around Kathmandu go to Swayambhu and light lamps in the name of their deceased relatives and get prayers from Lama Gurus. They call it Temal Jatra or Buddhist Jatra.
