18 Chait, Kathmandu. 14 student organizations have come together regarding the cancellation of student organizations in the government’s 100 agenda for government reform. By issuing a joint statement on Wednesday, those organizations have responded that the student movement in Nepal has not received mercy, grace and grace from anyone.
The first cabinet meeting of the Balendra Shah-led government approved 100 agendas related to government reforms. The student organization has expressed its attention to item number 86 in the same agenda through a statement.
“Nepal’s student movement has been developing on the foundation of self-sacrificing struggle and has been continuously active in favor of the nation, nationalism, democracy, social justice, educational reform and student rights,” the statement said. It is said in the statement that the student organization has presented its history heroically on the basis of the sacrificial struggle of the republican movement since the colonial rule.
“The government’s decision to ban and prohibit student organizations in the name of solving the complex problems of the education sector while ignoring the historical background of the student movement cannot give positive results in the long term,” the joint statement said.
Acknowledging that there are many problems in the university, the student organizations said that the state should decide its policies and programs after a detailed study to find the real cause and solve them.
Ignoring such facts, it has been determined through the statement that the government’s approach of imposing all the problems of the education sector on the student organization is immature and superficial.
It was also reminded through the statement that the student movement has been debating as necessary for timely restructuring. They have claimed that the results are starting to be seen.
The right to join organizations based on ideas is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal. Banning anyone’s opinion is contrary to democratic values and also incompatible with international human rights norms,” the statement said.
