27 Chaitra, Gorkha. The march of the Nepali Army has started on the historical unification path from Gorkha Darwar to Jitgarhi. This is the fourth edition of the walk which started on Friday.

During a program at Hanuman Bhanjyang of the Gorkha Palace, the participants of the padayatra were bid farewell. Ganapati Antak Rizal of Rudradhwaj Gana said that they were bid farewell by handing over the flags of the first companies of Nepali Army Srinath, Sabuj, Old Gorakh, Bardwani and Kalibox) along with the torch light.

Bholanath Thapa, President of Paschim Pritna Pokhara, Vivash Chintan, Mayor of Palungtar Municipality, Masli Maya Thokar, Deputy Mayor of Gorkha Municipality, Netra Prasad Sharma, Assistant Chief District Officer, and others jointly handed over the flag and torch light to the participants. A team of 35 people under the command of Senani Roshan Adhikari is participating in the trip.

The trek started from Gorkha and will end at Jitgarhi via Tanahun, Palpa. The Gorkha team will reach Palungtar’s Satighat and hand over the flag and torch to Tanahun today. Ganapati Rizal informed that Tanahun will report to Palpa and Palpa will report to Rupandehi.

“The Rupandehi team will reach Jitgarhi on Baisakh 6,” he said. He said that the day (7 Baisakh) of victory in the battle between the then British East India Company was being celebrated as a victory festival. According to him, the team will cover a total distance of 207 kilometers in eight days.

It is said that the purpose of the walk is to preserve the historical coat, fort, and fort. It is also expected to help in tourism promotion.
